Root canal treatment

A necessary intervention

Root Canal treatment is sometimes the only way to save a tooth destined for extraction.

Here are situations where root canal treatment is indicated :

  • deep decay that has reached the dental pulp where the nerve is located
  • broken tooth that a filling can not fix
  • very important restoration
  • tooth that requires a crown, but requires the additional support of a post.

It is possible that in such conditions, the patient develops pain or tooth infection (abscess).  The root canal treatment will allow the patient to keep their tooth while eliminating the discomfort, pain or swelling related to this tooth.  It will also preserve optimal masticatory function and dental aesthetics.

We have all heard horror stories about root canal treatment.  However, it is an intervention very well experienced by our patients.  Many are surprised how painless it is !
